Blueprint

The idea of the 20:20 event is to invite a seminal and influential practitioner to look back on a seminal project, providing retrospective insight as well as reflective lessons with which to look forward. In the light of the forthcoming Farrell Review of Architecture and Built Environment, a report commissioned by culture minister Ed Vaizey MP, we hope to unpick Sir Terry Farrell‘s longstanding relationship with London’s urban fabric, discussing his most distinctive contribution, the MI6 building in Vauxhall. Of this project, Farrell states:

‘Love it or hate it, the MI6 building proved to be one of the most enduring icons of the postmodernist movement, made famous around the world by the Bond films. To me, though, postmodernism was all-encompassing, not a style but an era that represented continuums of scale, time, changing uses and particularities of context and history which remain ever present in my work today.’

The first 20:20 seminar launched during London Festival of Architecture, and took place in another of London’s architectural treasures, Denys Lasdun’s brutalist Royal College of Physicians.
