WORKS HAVE COMPLETED on 2 Providence Court, a newbuild extension of The Beaumont Hotel, an independent luxury five-star hotel in London’s Mayfair district. The extension, which marks the completion of the second phase of the development at the hotel, has been designed around an internal landscaped courtyard, integrating with the style and décor of the existing Grade II listed art deco building.

ReardonSmith Architects led the design of the project, which adds 29 new guestrooms to the hotel. The interior design was delivered by The Office of Thierry Despont, while HDR handled the design and delivery of building engineering services, commissioning management, sustainability, and resiliency services, collaborating with industry partners Gardiner & Theobald.
The Beaumont Hotel remained open throughout the works, with all facilities such as elevators fully operational, to maintain guest services. HDR created two knockthroughs on each floor to extend the corridors, diverting some existing services. Additional building engineering services included the discreet installation of supply grills within cornices.
The new guestrooms feature close attention to detail, including brass-finish faceplates, scene-setting plates, media plates and switches, all provided by Focus SB, enabling users to control the services and create a bespoke environment for their stay.
Steve Bonnett, MEP director at HDR, says: ‘HDR took a considered approach to ensure a sensitive revitalisation of this prestigious London hotel, enabling the flawless integration of a high-standard modern extension with the beautiful Grade II listed heritage charm of the original building.
‘Carefully balancing innovation, preservation, sustainability and flexibility, our engineers worked around key challenges to deliver new services within the stringent parameters of the existing design, while maintaining optimal ceiling heights and keeping services discreet to showcase these unique and appealing spaces.’
Located within the Mayfair Conservation Area, environmental responsibility was of paramount importance throughout the project. A robust monitoring system was put into place and HDR’s sustainability and resiliency engineers tracked the noise, dust and vibration levels of the roof and plant rooms, minimising any potential disruption to neighbouring properties. Photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof, with a BREEAM Very Good rating achieved at the design stage.
The retrofit installation of bipolar ionisation technology within the air handling units was a key feature of the ventilation strategies for both The Beaumont Hotel and 2 Providence Court. This technology energises ions within the air supply for purification and aids in preventing airborne viruses.
In the first phase, HDR provided building engineering services for The Beaumont Hotel’s public areas, including refurbishing The Colony Grill Room Restaurant, Le Magritte Bar & Terrace, lounge and al fresco dining terrace. HDR also worked on the expansion of the spa and gym facilities and the creation of the new Mayfair Suite. www.hdrinc.com | www.reardonsmith.com
