The project is situated in a village in the north of Yongjia County, Zhejiang, near the source of the Nanxi River.

The design team delved into the construction methods of traditional local dwellings aiming to address the challenge of rural living facilities not matching the urbanised lifestyle, which caused inconveniences and reduced family reunions in rural hometowns, creating a space suitable for family and friends to gather and live comfortably. Upon entering the house residents are embraced by a spacious, welcoming environment adorned in warm brown tones that evoke simplicity and tranquillity.

The extensive use of teak wood creates an enveloping feeling, providing a serene atmosphere for the home, which can accommodate up to 30 family members, allowing them to enjoy family time together.

The judges said: ‘Great research…and use of natural resources.’
