SmithGroup will provide architecture, engineering, interiors, lab design and planning services for the new Human Health Building at OU.
The building will feature a variety of research and education spaces, including physical therapy clinics, clinical laboratories, computer labs, simulation labs, distance learning, an interactive media center, classrooms, seminar rooms, and faculty and administration space.
The 157,300 gross square feet facility will be designed to house the School of Health Sciences (SHS) and the School of Nursing (SON).
Combining the SON and SHS activity under one roof is expected to bring together the multi-disciplinary talent and expertise of OU’s academic and clinical faculty. This move is intended to foster collaboration in research endeavors and provides students with additional learning opportunities.
Thanks to the capital outlay bill passed by the Michigan legislature and signed by Governor Jennifer Granholm in 2008, the Human Health Building will receive funding for $40 million of the total $62 million project cost. The project is slated for completion by 2012.
SmithGroup specializes in the higher education, health, science and technology, and workplace markets.
