The 90 feet catamaran went public after much speculation and touched water for its trials prior to the America’s Cup race of sail boats. Based on the design of LeBlack, the 41 feet catamaran owned by Alinghi owner Ernesto Bertarelli, the boat is simple and fragile and resembles a spider.
The construction of this 90 feet catamaran is estimated to have cost more than GBP6 million ($???? million) to build. It features a 165 feet mast, 75 feet beam, powered winches, and does not include a water ballast.
The catamaran is capable of covering 600 square yards of sail area achieving speeds of up to 40 knots. Alinghi is the 33rd America’s Cup Defender this year.
