Four BSF schools – Durham Johnston Comprehensive School in Durham, Stockwell Park High School in Lambeth, Beaumont Leys School in Leicester and Catford High School in Lewisham – were inaugurated in April to make the total number of new schools to 58.

The government plans to rebuild or refurbish 3,500 state secondary schools in England by 2023. Partnerships for Schools (PfS), the delivery body of the schools, was reported stating that the latest round of openings showed that BSF was gathering pace after a slow start.

Tim Byles, chief executive of PfS, said that with 58 BSF schools now open across the country, the national program to rebuild and renew secondary schools is gaining momentum.
