The Sacred Heart Elementary and High School is a Catholic co-educational institution that is part of the Diocese of Jefferson City. The school building has undergone many changes over the summer vacation.
New classrooms have been included on the third floor for the upper level students. The second and third floors that were left unfinished when the school was built in 2005 are completed, making the school more spacious.
The finishing of the second floor will require $200,000, and will include a large art room, two elementary classrooms and an administrative office. Six classrooms, a new restroom and a science lab equipped with an eye-wash station and emergency shower are included in the newly renovated floor.
Interactive television or ITV has been provided in the junior and senior student classrooms to offer the students dual-credit courses through State Fair Community College, Central Methodist College and Central Missouri State University. The ITV consortium includes a physics class from Glascow and a college English course.
A group of lockers moved to the third floor has helped create cleaner and spacious environment for students making movement around the premises easier.
Funds were obtained through campaigns, like the parish’s capital campaign that helped in raising $1.2 million out of a hoped-for $1.4 million. The expansion program cost an estimated $300,000, while the remaining amount will be used to renovate the church, improve teacher salaries and support the school’s foundation.
