Resembling an inverted pyramid that partly overhangs the Canada Water basin, a dominant feature of the four-story Canada Water library building spread over 3,165 square feet is a full height atrium with a timber-lined central spiral staircase traveling up to the expanding shape above.
Clad in aluminum sheets coated in light bronze, with sequined perforations, the library also has excellent green credentials with a ground source heat pump, grey water harvesting and a living green roof.
The library will be located at the edge of a new civic plaza, forming part of a new town center for Canada Water, which includes approximately 900 new homes, new retail and public space. The civic plaza will house a farmers’ market, large TV screenings, festivals and a host of other events and activities.
Construction is slated to reach completion in early 2011. The design will be exhibited from June 8 to August 16, 2009.
