The school building is incorporating green features to its structure to make it environment-friendly. Energy-efficient features like solar panels, a wind turbine and biomass boiler using compressed wood pellets, and a gray water system to recycle water, make the school sustainable.
The initiative to make the school eco-friendly has been taken to make the students aware of adopting a holistic, nature-friendly method of living and growing. Huge classrooms and required facilities have been incorporated to emerge environmentally sustainable features to the facility.
Morgan Ashurst, the principal contractor of the project, is involved in completing the GBP7.4 million ($11.95 million approx.) building by November 2, 2009, working in consortium with the Kirklees Council, architect Geoff Fox and the schools and neighboring community.
The new school that signifies the merger of Stile Common Infant, and nursery and junior schools, includes the construction of nine classrooms, a large foundation stage space, dance studio, hall, and meeting rooms.
The school is also set to include an extensive ground which will include an outdoor classroom, and raised beds for children and the community to grow fruit and vegetables. Computers will be installed in all rooms and 135 laptops will be provided to the children, and the entire school will be connected through Wireless Internet.
The school entrance will feature the children’s handprints, while the children’s artwork and tiles will be represented throughout the school premises.
