Conran will be honored in recognition of his work across the continent through his design consultancy Conran & Partners. Conran & Partners is responsible for Das Triest in Vienna, the Fitzwilliam in Dublin, and the Great Eastern hotel in London.

The consultancy’s latest work, the Boundary Project in London, is nominated in the Best Conversion and Best Bathroom/Bedroom Interior categories.

Housed in a Victorian industrial building in Shoreditch, the Boundary comprises a 17-bedroom boutique hotel, a roof garden with bar and grill, fine dining restaurant as well as a caff and food store.

Left unoccupied for many years, parts of the building’s structure had become slightly dilapidated; but the original 1893 configuration had barely changed since its original inception. Located on the edge of conservation area in an area rich in history, the building is sited at the end of a block with a street frontage on three sides.

The firm has demolished the existing mansard and constructed two new floors housing duplex bedrooms with double height living space and be-deck above, clad in pre-patinated green copper and timber brise soleil.

The practice has the credit of revitalizing architectural landmarks, such as Michelin House, Butlers Wharf and Bluebird Garage, produced the greenest building of its time, the Longman Headquarters in Harlow, and designed new developments for City Lofts all over Britain.

Now in the twelfth year, the European Hotel Design Awards are the acclaimed celebration of hotel design in Europe recognizing the work of architects, designers and developers.
