Superintendent of Schools Linda A. Madison said that a rush in the process would give room to mistakes. The completion date of the renovation has been pushed back for the second time. The refurbishment was originally expected to be completed in September, then it was expected to be completed this month.

The remodeling of the gym is nearly complete with addition of a new floor, bleachers and scoreboard to the facility. Acoustical ceiling tiles to damper the noise, and four more basketball backboards are yet to be installed to complete the renovation.

The new additions were being sealed up by the contractors a week ago, with electrical wiring, data lines and plumbing all in place. The walls of the new kitchen have also been raised but the equipments are yet to be installed. The library furniture is all ready to be set as soon as the new media center is complete.

The ground breaking on this 4,800 square feet project was done in April, but the project got delayed due to the heavy rains in Central Jersey. The drainage system of the school had to be reconfigured, leading to loss of some new audio-visual equipment.

Besides the renovated gym, the school also has air conditioning and new science labs. The media center and the kitchen, designed to blend with the 63-year-old school’s architecture, will be located in the new addition.

The voters approved a $7.2 million referendum in 2007 for improvements to Parkview School, but the majority of work is taking place at Joyce Kilmer School, which serves about 425 children in grades 4-8.
