Red Bull New York is an American professional soccer organization based in New Jersey that fields the Major League Soccer (MLS) team, the New York Red Bulls. Austrian beverage company Red Bull owns the New York Red Bulls.
The $200 million stadium, under construction in Harrison, New York, is designed as an intimate soccer-only stadium. Red Bull Arena is expected to be the costliest MLS stadium ever built. The doughnut-shaped stadium will have a capacity of about 25,000 and features a full, translucent, European-style roof that will cover all the seats in the stadium but not the field.
Red Bull Arena will be the eighth soccer-only stadium for the 15-team MLS. The design features a roof extending just past the field’s touchlines with 60 feet of the roof being transparent to allow for natural light. The first row of seating is to be approximately 21 feet from the touchlines.
The design is on par with those of soccer stadiums around the world. It will look similar to the Hypo-Arena in Klagenfurt, Austria in appearance. The stadium would be open on March 27, 2010.
