The detailed design project for all buildings and infrastructure of the new airport is 60% complete.

The completed facility will be able to handle 450 passengers per hour to serve a projected figure of one million passengers per year in its first phase up to year 2025.

Hanif Macci, TPS director said that the airport design approach gave utmost focus on airtime, passenger and airport operator’s requirements, along with emphasis on capacity and efficient ground infrastructure. This is intended to allow stress-free experience and access to good parking, hotel facilities and security provisions.

The airport’s roof design has taken inspiration from the local topography which is accentuated with hills. The facility features dramatic undulating roof structure that provides sufficient natural lighting and ventilation deep into the terminal building

The entire design project is expected to be completed by late 2009.
