Part of the Devonport Naval base, the facility has now been acquired to enable Princess to commence the construction of a new range of large superyachts. Plans are afoot to start the manufacture of bespoke yachts which will measure more than 100 feet – too large to be built in Princess’ current facility.
With the acquisition of this additional land, with an investment of approximately GBP15 million ($24.6 million approx.), Princess Yachts now has more than 38 acres in Plymouth, including the Newport Street head office and manufacturing site, Coypool, Lee Mill and Langage sites.
One of the first yachts to be built at the South Yard site will be the Princess 105, which the company expects will be the beginning of a new range of technically advanced, long range cruising yachts.
Construction of the first yacht is expected to be completed by the end of 2010.
