Mark Wightman, chairman of the New Zealand Marine Export Group, said that the team at Alloy Yachts once again demonstrated their support for the New Zealand marine industry and the superyacht sector by joining as a sponsor of this event.
Wightman adds that many companies and superyacht captains in the New Zealand marine sector have showed interest in participating in the NZ Marine Cup as sponsors.
The race for the first NZ Marine Cup, which will be sailed on Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf on March 4, 2010, will see participation from both sail and motor superyachts and their crews in a one-day race and social activities as part of Auckland’s build-up to the start of the new Louis Vuitton World Series on March 9, 2010. The NZ Marine Cup is a new superyacht sailing trophy for one-off events that complements the organization’s existing superyacht event – the NZ Marine Millennium Cup.
The Kiwi Kawau Challenge will see superyacht participants racing under sail from the start line off Devonport Wharf inside Auckland Harbor to the finish line off Bon Accord Harbour on Kawau Island.
