Located adjacent to Phipps Gallery, the new facility will be built on the south side of the existing museum and will be divided into two parts. The part above ground will feature a 40,000 square feet, three-story building. It will feature two floors of high-tech science activity areas designed for preschool through eighth grade children, their teachers, parents and care givers, including a science play area for preschoolers. The third floor of the center will include an exhibition gallery.

The part below ground will house a two-level, 60,000 square feet collections processing and storage area called as the Rocky Mountain Science Collections Center. The center will house the 1.4 million artifacts which the museum has in its collections.
