The service provider will perform the task of facilities management together with its partner, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC). The two companies entered into a joint venture. The new company, HOCHTIEF Facility Management Bahrain Airport W.LL. will initially employ around 170 people involved in the operation of all technical systems and the airport infrastructure. The contract will run for six years and will be extended for a further five on the basis of satisfactory performance. The contract is worth roughly EUR85 million ($115 million approx.) for the first six years.

Currently, Bahrain International Airport has a gross floor space of just under 70,000 square meters, on which there are various buildings such as the terminal, aircraft hangars, cargo halls, administrative buildings and a fire station.

In future, HOCHTIEF Facility Management will provide technical and infrastructural services for all these properties and the airport grounds. The service provider will be taking responsibility for building management systems, passenger bridges and cleaning and will also deal with the sensitive infrastructure of the apron area and the runways.

Bahrain International Airport handles around eight million passengers per year. A new terminal, due for completion by 2015, will increase capacity to 15 million passengers. Overall, a total of EUR3.5 billion ($4.7 billion approx.) will be spent on upgrading the airport.

HOCHTIEF Facility Management will also be supported by the Group subsidiary HOCHTIEF Airport which has holdings in a total of six airports around the world. The contract marks a further internationalization of HOCHTIEF’s service business.
