The 100,000 square meters Khan Shatyry Entertainment Centre with 200m elliptical base is designed to be a dramatic civic focal point for the capital of Kazakhstan. The 150m high building is set to become the tallest structure in the city when it is completed in mid-2010.
An area larger than 10 football stadiums underneath the structure is designed to be an urban-scale internal park. Shopping and entertainment venue with squares and cobbled streets, a boating river, shopping center, mini-golf and indoor beach resort are also included in the center.
The roof is constructed from Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) suspended on a network of cables strung from a central spire. The transparent material helps in allowing natural light into the interiors.
