The runway extension scheme will undertake the enhancement of runway to 2,000 feet in order to ensure safe operation by fully loaded aircrafts. The expanded runway will allow airlines to land longer flights with full fuel tanks.

The second phase of the expansion project will undertake $15.5 million rebuilding and expansion project of aprons adjacent to the terminals. New apron concrete will also be spread around concourse B and the south-west portion of concourse A.

The runway extension program is funded by $30m from the federal economic stimulus bill. US-based firm Acme Concrete Paving is the general contractor. Colvico will oversee the electrical work for the project.
