The Loblolly House spanning 2,200 square feet is designed by KieranTimberlake as a single family residence. The house is aptly named for the tall pines that characterize its site on the Chesapeake Bay. Positioned between towering loblolly pines and a lush foreground of salt-meadow cord-grass and the bay, the house is designed within the elements of trees, tall grasses, the sea, the horizon, the sky and the western sun that define the place of the house.
The Loblolly House is constructed using a component-based prefab ‘kit-of-parts’ that can be unbolted and rebuilt in different configurations for a different site or house. The architects used building information modeling (BIM) to streamline the design-build process.
The house construction, which consisted of 70% prefabricated components, took only six weeks to complete.
