Spectrum received two awards for projects in Best Residential Addition or Alteration category and won top honors in the Best Historic Renovation for its 109 Main Street office building.

Built in 1900, the 109 Main St. office building in Mount Arlington, New Jersey, was designed and constructed as an office and family residence for the only practicing physician in Succasunna. The property also included a carriage house, originally used to house the family horse, carriage and feed.

Spectrum retained the historic elements of the house during renovation and added some new elements to it. The historic design of the structure have been maintained using low maintenance, energy-efficient and green building materials. Some of the distinctive and new elements of the building are handicap-access; on-site parking; telephone, cable and fiber optic capability; wall-to-wall carpeting; new energy-efficient windows with panoramic views of property; and handicap accessible restroom on each floor.

Spectrum won an award in the Best Residential Addition/ Alteration category for the Buldiger residence in Succasunna, New Jersey. Spectrum built the original house in 1996 and later modified it for Sue Buldiger, who wanted a multi-generational addition that would accommodate the needs of her aging parents.

The completed parent’s suite includes a new bedroom, bath and kitchenette. The bath is barrier-free and features a wheelchair-accessible shower. The existing house was refurbished by increasing the shared family room and adding a new laundry room and foyer. Changes to the exterior of the home include a barrier-free covered entrance and a new porch off the family room besides new front entryway door, garage door and cultured stone to the front elevation.

Spectrum also won in the residential addition/alteration category for a residence in Sparta. The major aim behind the alteration was to enhance the exterior of the home while rectifying major repair problems. Spectrum designed a new front dormer and porch, and a pergola complete with lanterns to illuminate the front walk.

The Awards of Excellence Program is designed by the CBRANJ to recognize and promote members of the New Jersey Builders Association who have reached high levels of achievement in the fields of new home construction, remodeling, commercial building, sales and marketing.
