Three new buildings named – Bourke, Burton and Forbes residences – are unified on a neighboring sandstone base, which envelops the site in keeping with the historic surrounds. The basement of the structure has been designed to house retail and commercial areas spanning 1,000 square meters.

The Bourke, Burton and Forbes residences are designed as low-rise buildings displaying an architectural profile of steel, glass and louvers and floating roofs. Four apartments are housed within two adapted heritage buildings retained on the site. This features a fine blend of heritage features and contemporary style. Over 90% of the units are cross-ventilated, due to the large frontages and stepped unit façade layout

Dominion development is located on the site of the former Caritas healthcare facility, which St Hilliers acquired from St Vincent’s Hospital in 2008 with concept plan approval for a medium density residential and commercial development. The triangular site is bordered by the famous Darlinghurst Gaol, now the National Art School; the NSW Supreme Court; and the former heritage Darlinghurst Police Station.

The Dominion has been designed to earn 5 star Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) environmental rating. SJB Architects have designed the interiors.

Construction is expected to commence in December 2010 with a scheduled completion within 18 months.

Cbus Property, the property arm of Australian super fund Cbus, entered into a joint venture with building and construction company St Hilliers to deliver Dominion luxury apartments in Darlinghurst.
