The Hilton Columbus Downtown hotel will feature 532 rooms, 48 suites and 22,800 square feet of meeting space, including a 12,000 square feet ballroom. The property is designed by global design practice HOK and Columbus-based firm Moody Nolan. Illinois-based firm Simeone Deary Design Group will undertake the interior design of the new hotel.
The hotel will feature a 160-seat, full-service restaurant, a 100-seat lounge, a specialty coffee outlet, an executive lounge, and a lobby. The lobby has been designed to feature a large atrium integrated with skylights. This natural light-flooded space featuring a combination of brick and glass façade will lend an indoor-outdoor feel.
The Hilton Columbus Downtown is designed adhering to sustainable principles and will attain LEED Certification as well as Green Seal Certification from an operating standpoint. The full-service convention hotel is expected to open in late 2012.
The addition of the hotel combined with the existing amenities of the Greater Columbus Convention Center is expected to enable the City of Columbus to compete as a convention destination for more than 900 national trade shows, conventions and meetings.
The new $140 million convention headquarters hotel is a collaboration between the Franklin County Commissioners, Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority, City of Columbus and Nationwide Realty Investors. The property will be owned and developed by the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority and operated by Hilton Worldwide. Turner Smoot is the project construction manager.
