Four properties from Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand, have scooped regional architecture awards and will be put up for national honors. The winners were announced on July 16, 2010 at the Car Museum in New Zealand.
The Residential New Home award has been won by Tushka Glintmeyer and Nathan Rooney of Wellington-based Space Architecture Studio for the design of a Waikanae beach house. The scheme was honored under the category of ‘homes under 250 square meters’. The scheme has also won an award for its interior design and exterior color scheme.
The award for homes in the category of Residential New Home over 250 square meters was won by Graeme Calcott, of Wellington firm Calcott Architecture and Landscape Design. The home is situated in a lifestyle block in Tawa.
AD Architecture’s Jon Ambler won the Residential Alterations and Additions Design Award for the renovation of a small Waikanae bach. Peter Davis, also a part of AD Architecture, won an award in the Commercial-Industrial Design Award category for his Monteith’s Kapiti Junction brewery bar project in Paraparaumu.
Chris Shaw of Pacific Modern Architecture won an award for a home overlooking the Raglan Harbour and the Wainui School Library building.
These winners are stated to compete at the national awards level in Nelson in October 2010. The judging panel included Wellington architect Ian Athfield.
ADNZ was formed in 1996 to represent, promote and develop the skills and services of its members, who are all specialists in design and construction. The annual awards event is open to ADNZ members and provides an opportunity for architectural designers throughout the country to showcase their work.
