The 23,000 square feet building has received a 600 square feet addition as part of the project. The project has been designed by Maryland-based architectural practice Hord Coplan & Macht (HCM), with Illinois-based Holland Construction as contractor.
The existing building of the Cockeysville branch has undergone extensive interior renovation and has received a one-story addition with 14 feet ceilings. The renovation and expansion includes a new main entrance, new furniture, a section devoted specifically to teens and a new children’s area that has more than doubled in size.
New restroom facilities, tutoring rooms, a group conference room and quiet study room are also added. The enlarged interior is designed to accommodate additional public computers and laptop stations, as well as more space for easier maneuverability by library users.
The Cockeysville Library first opened in 1982, was among the first libraries in the country to include bookstore display shelving and neon signage. It is considered as the BCPL’s busiest and most frequently used library.
