The new clinical built environments will be designed with inherent flexibility, modularity and standardisation. This will ensure that staff can easily adapt to work practices across all three diverse sites. The project is part of the establishment of GP Super Clinics in Brisbane Southside. The super clinic hubs will be established at Annerley in Brisbane, with complementary satellite sites still being negotiated for the broader Brisbane Southside region. GP Super Clinics are a key element in building a stronger primary care system.

Woodhead is working in association with UQ Health Service (UQHS) and Capital Insight Project Management in evolving ‘evidence based design’ for the clinical spaces. UQHS is a health care facility that provides comprehensive health services to current students of the University of Queensland.

Evidence-based design is expected to improve: indoor environmental quality via Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) initiatives; ‘Positive Distraction’ via the stimulation of the senses using lighting, texture, colour, artwork and graphic design; and a connection to external spaces and landscaping via natural daylight and views from waiting areas.

The Brisbane Southside GP Super Clinic will provide integrated, team-based health care tailored to the needs of the local community.

The GP Super Clinic will have a strong focus on supporting the future primary care workforce. It is anticipated that student clinics will be incorporated as the GP Super Clinic develops, as part of educating future health professionals.
