Ware Malcomb has provided architectural and interior design services for the Inland Valley Humane Society’s 12,345 square feet build-to-suit office and pet adoption facility. The two-storey building is composed of private and open office, training facilities, pet store, pet adoption, and pet informational spaces.
Ware Malcomb’s design responds to IVHS’s vision to create a building that evokes a ‘home away from home’ feel. The design achieved this through the use of materials such as plaster exterior, wood trellises, shade structures, and brick pavers, as well as warm earth tone colours. The final design fuses residential styling with office functionality to provide the desired, welcoming environment.
The project is pursuing LEED-NC Gold Certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). Sustainable design elements include: porous concrete for on-site water filtration; certified cool roof system; water-efficient landscape system; low flow plumbing fixtures to reduce consumption by more than 40%; green label carpet; designated fuel-efficient vehicle parking spaces; roof mounted Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels; designated recycling area; demolition material recycling program to recycle more than 75% of generated waste; and HVAC exceeding Title 24 Energy Standards by more than 14%.
Construction for this design-build project was completed in August 2010. KPRS of Brea, California served as the general contractor.
