The new healthcare campus on a 40-acre site is located on the western edge of Greater Cleveland and on the eastern side of Lorain County. The project comprises two major structures: a four-storey Family Health Center of approximately 120,000 square feet, and a two-storey Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) of 60,000 square feet. The ASC is designed to house an outpatient surgery centre, a free-standing Emergency Department with 24-hour service, and an Imaging suite. The two structures are linked by two-storey atrium and centralised entrance that contains several small retail spaces on the first floor and conference rooms on the second Floor.
The $97.9 million Avon Family Health and Surgery Center will also include a large physical therapy area with two pools for aquatic therapy, an ambulatory surgery center and a 24-hour emergency room. A helicopter pad will also be featured on site. One wall at the second floor features a line of windows to allow ample sunlight inside.
The first floor of the building is conceived as a retail and physical therapy space. On the other side of the floor, gym is featured. The second, third and fourth floors are chiefly exam and waiting rooms. All the floors in total contain 150 exam rooms. The facility is scheduled to open its doors on 1 December 2011.
The Cleveland Clinic currently has 15 family health centers and nine regional hospitals to serve the medical needs of Northeast Ohio. In addition to the Avon facility, Cleveland Clinic also plans to open its new Twinsburg Family Health & Surgery Center in 2011.
