The financial close for these buildings was reached in December 2010. Bonus Pastor is a Catholic Secondary School that is split across two sites about 300m apart. Both sites border the Green Chain, a sequence of nearly 300 open spaces including some landscapes in South East London.

The £19 million ($30.5 million) new build project, commissioned by Lewisham BSF, will see the redevelopment of both sites to create 7,400 square meters of new space. The facilities will be divided in between the two sites following consultations with the College.

The client had asked for a design of the two new buildings that could accommodate a total of 750 students to host the College’s pedagogy and focus on pastoral care. The client also requested a flexible approach in order to accommodate future changes in teaching and learning.

According to the new design plans, the main campus building on the Winlaton Road site has the visitors’ entrance and central administration along with the College’s specialist faculties of ICT, Mathematics and Humanities. Also part of this building are the main hall and dining area which will be available for community uses, and a library centrally located on the ground floor which is fully glazed to the entrance.

The second building, located on the Churchdown Road site, is largely dedicated to Sports, Drama and Technology. It incorporates a central hub created by a two-storey high foyer articulated by a large glazed wall facing the Green Chain Walk. The hub provides breakout and exhibition space, and a direct link to the external environment.

The school is designed to achieve a minimum 60% reduction in carbon emissions and a 13% increase in renewable energy, and is on target to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating.

Bonus Pastor College is due to be completed in August 2012.
