The various functions of the house are stacked in a classic manner to include working space on the ground floor, living space on the Bel-Etage and sleeping on the upper floor. V35K18 is separated from the house behind it by a narrow glazed section which forms the entrance for the house. The glazing covers a corridor that extends the full height of the building and is sandwiched between the two houses. The home has a total area of 160 square meters
The house consists of a long staircase that begins at the entrance and goes all the way upto the second floor with landings leading off into each level. The staircase is situated in the glazed void and gives the effect of overwhelming space between the public and private realm.
The home, due to its dark colour, forms a dominant ‘corner stone’ in the southern corner of an urban block consisting of 18 different houses. All the other design details of the house are subordinate to this principle. The house consists of square floor-to-ceiling windows that are detailed flush into the facade. The house is also made with the smaller but longer ‘Hilversum-format’ of bricks.
Pasel Kuenzel has designed 10 other houses on this former industrial site.
