Designed by Robin Partington, the 42-storey skyscraper is shaped as cylindrical and will be 124 feet higher than the Big Ben and 95 feet taller than St Paul’s Cathedral. The exterior of the building will be clad in a mixture of midnight blue ceramic panels with white porcelain columns extending up to the top floor.
The Merchant Square project will house 222 flats, a boutique hotel with a terrace café, a roof-top sky bar with a 360-degree panoramic view over the city, shops and a nursery.
Planning committee chairman at Westminster council Alastair Moss said that the structure is expected to be an iconic addition to London’s skyline and serve as a focal point for Paddington and the surrounding area.
The project, proposed by billionaire brothers Simon and David Reuben, is a joint venture between the Jarvis Family trust Pearcroft and the Reuben brothers.
