Led by Victoria-based CEI Architecture and Planning, the renovation project encompass replacement of the facility roof, addition of four new dressing rooms, a warm room area, skate shop, accessible washrooms, large entrance and reception area, meeting room, play area, playschool room, retrofits to the existing concession stands, and a new concrete surface in the curling rink.
Additional features of the renovation include new sound equipment, extra concession equipment, dehumidification controls, lighting, seismic upgrades, multi-purpose room on a spring floor, and individual seating in the warm sitting area.
The $7.6 million budget included $1 million in federal economic stimulus funding, $100,000 in previous savings, and $6.5 in borrowing. Currently about 95% of the renovation of Cowichan Lake Sports Arena is complete.
