The renovation is aimed at a complete makeover of the centre including moving the entrance of the mall out of the courtyard and renovation of the grocery store. The shopping center will be leveled out to make existing grade changes. The Saxby’s Coffee in the center of the mall will feature new signage and design. All the stores will be at the same level instead of the existing different floors. At least 1,000 square feet in the development will be reserved for community use. The county and other organizations will be able to use the space for meetings.

Some of the buildings in the development will be transformed as green structures and will aim for LEED Silver Certification. White roofs will be the primary element that will reflect heat, bringing down cooling bills. The renovation will also upgrade storm water facilities that will be able to handle a 10-year rainfall or even a 50-year rainfall.

The developers have also taken into consideration traffic from nearby interchanges and George Mason University. The plans feature crosswalks, sidewalks and increased pedestrian walkways.

The plan is expected to be approved in April 2011, with construction to begin in late 2011. The renovation is expected to complete by the end of 2012.
