Located at 1003 Parsons Road SW in Alberta, the new store spans 52,000 square feet and would be Totem’s nineteenth location in Alberta and its second store to apply for a LEED certification.

The store features 33,000 square feet of retail space and two acre drive-through lumberyard as well as dedicated entrance and service area for contractors. The new store features five expanded sections including bathrooms, basements, flooring, kitchens and painting.

The Ellerslie Totem store was built considering the LEED criteria for new buildings. The store has incorporated low-emission materials in the construction including paint, adhesives and waterproofing materials. It features an energy-efficient roofing system, additional insulation in the building envelope, T-5 fluorescent lighting, automated controls to adjust the lighting, air conditioning and heating throughout the day, and low-flow sanitation equipment.

Lumber from certified forests and locally manufactured materials were used to build the stores and bike racks. The store also features changing rooms and showers to encourage employees to cycle or walk to work.
