The renovation is part of the Airport Experience Program launched in 2008, and is worth $70 million. The major features of the renovation include relocating C Concourse checkpoint to accommodate latest passenger screening equipment; introducing brighter ceiling treatments in lower level that includes programmable LED light fixtures on structural columns; new atrium to connect ticketing and lower levels; and new baggage claim restrooms.
Additional improvements comprises renovation of existing restrooms; new ticket counters and Terrazzo flooring on upper level Ticketing Hall; and new signage and directories. A new dedicated performance area called ‘St. Louis Stage’will be added in lower level. New interactive and static art displays will also be incorporated in renovated areas.
Renovations in Concourses A and C are currently underway with new roadway signs, restoration of the dome ceilings in Terminal 1, and new carousels in the terminal already completed. Nearly 1,000 linear feet of construction walls will be erected in Lambert Airport’s Terminal 1.
Construction will be carried out in phases through late 2012. Lambert’s facility was originally designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki in 1956.
