Refurbishments will enhance the area of the airport terminal by about 135,000 square feet. New departure gates and a children’s play section will be added to the second floor of the airport terminal. Seating facilities will be multiplied along with inclusion of new washrooms and an executive business lounge.
New stores and restaurants will be added as part of the refurbishment works. All the renovations will be done in the space beyond the security gate of the airport. The pre-board screening area will be retained on the main floor with an expansion. Plans also include expansion of the customs area in addition to installation of two new bridges for aircraft access.
Construction is expected to commence by mid-2012 and reach completion within 26-28 months.
The project will be the first phase of a ten year, $105 million capital spending project. The first phase, including terminal renovations, will require $45 million while the remaining funds are expected to be used for improvements on runways and hangars.
