The facility with a 24,000 seat capacity has been designed by Populous in association with HDR Architecture. It incorporates a contemporary look featuring richly-stated brick at the street level with a blend of clear and translucent glass. There is a symbolic metal halo canopy which offers shade for spectators in the day time. The seats of the new stadium possess enhanced width and depth with an outfield bullpen that provides seats in close proximity to the field. The stadium also features arrival entrances at each of the facility’s four corners. In addition, it comprises 30 luxury suites and club seating to accommodate 2,500 spectators.
The stadium features a camera area behind the home plate to allow shots in up-close angles in addition to over 20 field-facing camera positions. It is equipped with high-resolution television monitors placed near every concession stand. There is also an 1,782 square feet outfield scoreboard and an easily movable pitching mound which can be disassembled and phased out quickly in order to transform it for non-baseball events.
The facility features a 360-degree open concourse and is designed to allow optimum passage of daylight into the enclosed areas on the concourse. The city can be viewed from the concourse through a series of openings created between structures in the stadium. The upper levels of the facility too enable glimpses of the city owing to the wide use of glass in these levels. The stadium complex consists of parking facilities for nearly 9000 vehicles.
The stadium will house the NCCA Men’s College World Series of Baseball as well as the Creighton University baseball team.
