The centre spanning 49,150 square feet serves as the college’s main athletic building comprising a gymnasium, fitness centre, dance studio and swimming pool. The facelift will add a 37,460 square feet arena in the building enhancing the building’s size by over 100,000 square feet.
The 3,400-seat arena will comprise a total of 2,552 chair back and bleacher-style seats for spectators. The centre will also facilitate exhibitions, trade shows, concerts, dances and commencements. The expansion project is being funded by the State of Maryland, Harford County and HCC.
The project also includes makeover to the administrative offices for the athletic department and physical education faculty. A second classroom will be created to serve health and physical education classes post overhaul work.
The swimming pool of the facility measuring 25 yards will be resurfaced and improved whereas the athletic training facility and locker rooms too will undergo upgrades. Further, the existing gym will be transformed into an all-purpose room to serve various activities. Work is due for completion by August end or early September 2012.
