Work in the first phase involves retrofitting of the grade II-listed cold storage building on Digbeth High Street into offices. The ground floor of the building will accommodate retail and restaurant space. The project also involves construction of a 60,000 square feet hotel.

The redevelopment of the cold storage building will also involve maintenance of the original facade of the building. Construction is scheduled to start in September 2012.

The entire project involves construction of 600,000 square feet of office space, leisure and retail space, a hotel and public square. The centrepiece of the development will be a 27-storey tower. The office spaces will be developed to meet the stringent requirements of BREEAM Excellent standards.

The scheme has been designed by UK-based design practice Trevor Horne Architects and is being funded by Kuwait-based developer Salhia Real Estate Company.
