The new headquarters building is located at 525 Golden Gate, a half block from the San Francisco City Hall at the heart of San Francisco’s Civic Center district. The 13-storey building has been built above grade, 1 floor and spas 275,000 square feet.
SEPUC roped in multinational design firm Arup for sustainability consulting, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, acoustics, fire and information technology services. The design of the building embraces a host of sustainable principles, based on which it is is being targeted for LEED Platinum certification.
The building has been designed in a way that it optimizes the interaction between the building envelope and building systems. The design of the building allows permeation of natural light, which coupled with high interior air quality, offers healthy work environment. The creative floor plan maximizes exterior views and natural light.
The headquarters has a nighttime ventilation system for flushing excess heat from the building. The building features integrated light shelves that bounces daylight deep into the floor plan. The building also has an onsite water recycling plant and grey water reuse system.
The building also features rooftop photovoltaic panels and integrated wind turbines, which generates green power which offsets the dependence on fossil generated power.
