Developed by US-based McCarthy Building Companies Inc, the new Mental Health Center is a 90,000 square feet facility which has been designed in a way to offer a modernized healing and therapeutic environment to the patients. The facility has been built at the VA’s Palo Alto campus.

The facility has a total capacity of 80 beds, spread over four units of 20 inpatient psychiatric beds. It also includes a separate mental health research and office pavilion, outdoor enclosed gardens and a utility building to serve the complex.

It is enveloped with plenty of green space. The design of the building allows natural light to permeate into the inner spaces. All the patient rooms offer views of the outside landscaped areas. The facility has been done up in a variety of colours, texture and material, which aid the healing process.

The new campus integrates geographically diverse inpatient facilities, located at two campuses, under one roof. The Mental Health Center will provide an array of inpatient and outpatient mental health services, as well as a research unit.
