The project has been designed by a joint venture between HKS Incorporated, a healthcare architectural firms, and Steffian Bradley Architects. Scope of work involves construction of a new hospital and renovation of the existing facilities of the health centre.
The project comprises construction of a new tower for the John Dempsey Hospital, which will comprise 169 new private patient rooms, a new operating room suite and a new emergency department. The company will renovate the cardiology, psychiatry and other ancillary programs such as radiology and pharmacy services of the health centre. The company will also build a parking garage in front of the main entrance which is scheduled for completion by the first quarter of 2013.
The building will be enveloped by landscaped garden featuring native plants. The site will also have stormwater management system. The building will feature a high-performance building envelope with efficient HVAC equipment and lighting systems, which is estimated to reap energy benefits of about 20%. The new tower will also feature low-flow indoor plumbing fixtures, which will prevent water wastage by more than 20%.
The tower will be constructed using eco-friendly materials and interior finishes. Turner will use low-emitting materials, which coupled with proper filtration, will improve the indoor air quality.
The project is being targeted for LEED certification.
