The Marshak Family Hospice Pavilion is designed to serve hospice patients who need intensive, 24-hour care and can serve 1,000 patients per year.

It features state-of-the-art clinical and psychosocial care provisions, offering 16 patient suites, with daybeds for family members and prairie-views or terraces facilities. The pavilion also includes a family room with kitchenette, dining room, private showers, family laundry facilities and children’s area. It is designed as a home away from home where families can stay with their loved one around the clock.

The healing design of the hospice is evident throughout the space. All rooms with terraces or prairie views are covered in soft colour palettes of sage, morrel, bisque, dove white and Yarmouth blue which lend a calm atmosphere. Reclaimed wood from Michigan barns surrounds a working fireplace. Walls also showcase landscape art and design.

The space is also resonant with technology. Each patient room features HVAC system, exam lighting, and concealed hutch for medical devices. Patients can connect with team members anywhere in the pavilion by using a wireless nurse call and two-way cell phone system. The naturally illuminated clinical wellness spa features an immersion tub, salon chair and sink, and massage table. The pavilion also features children’s play area with a play table, toys and television. The entire space is pet-friendly.

The facility has also been built for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification with green technology used throughout. Hallways feature natural light and prairie lookouts.

Adjacent to the pavilion is the Waud Family Healing Garden, which will be open to the community as well as serve as a national demonstration site for horticultural therapy through the Chicago Botanic Garden.

Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter cares for 3,200 patients per year in 150 communities in North/Northwest Chicago, the North/Northwest Suburbs and Lake County.
