The scheme will be delivered by the company’s BAM Construction North East division. Pursuant to the contract, the company will offer complete internal as well as external fit-out services, which will deliver a modern, flexible, technology-enabled learning environment which will be in sync with the 21st century library environment.
Scope of work involves creation of the new facades and mechanical and engineering services for the eight-storied library. The historic library, which encompasses an area of 16,000 square metre, will include more flexible areas for teaching and study that will allow students to work in groups or privately.
The building will receive improved IT systems that will support the usages of new-age electronic devices anywhere in the building. The ground floor will be converted into an open-for-public area, with a new space housing the University Art Collection and will be used to host public exhibitions and events.
The upper floors will be reconfigured to create a viewing area on the top floor, where one can enjoy the panoramic views of the Hull and the East Riding. The project is aimed to achieve BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating for sustainability.
BAM is scheduled to begin enabling works in August 2012, while main construction is scheduled to get underway in November 2012, with completion pencilled for the first quarter of 2014.
