The Crown Place scheme will deliver 1,259-unit, which will be constructed on the Brownlow Hill in the centre of the University of Liverpool’s city campus. The development will replace the former veterinary school of the university, which is being moved to a new building.
Ocon will demolish the existing structure on the site to build the new facility and recycle the waste as piling material. The Crown Place will consist of three buildings, varying between seven to 10 storeys. The development will offer a cluster of five to eight en-suite bedrooms and studios. Crown Place will also offer 29 large studio apartments, which will be developed for pastoral tutors.
Building One will have retail units on the ground floor as well as a large social space, games room and laundry, which will enclose the administration hub of the scheme. Building Two will also have undercroft car park.
The buildings will have concrete frame, which will feature a cladding of brickwork, curtain walling and glassfibre reinforced concrete (GRC). The green aspects of the buildings consist of green roofs and a heating system, which will use the energy from the existing plant of the university.
Based on several green credentials of the development, the project is being aspired for BREEAM Excellent status. The scheme is scheduled for completion by August 2014.
