The brief required the rationalisation of the colour scheme to make wayfinding simpler and durability of floors, with the continued expansion and alteration of the hospital over the last few years. Tarkett’s vinyl floorings claim to deliver better performance to meet the high demands of modern healthcare facilities and are also available in a wide variety of colour options, which made them a suitable choice.

Tarkett’s iQ Optima range was specified for the refurbishment. According to the design team, the main hospital street serves as both primary pedestrian circulation and service corridor. The floors endure the effects of both a high volume of foot traffic and movement of hospital equipment on a daily basis. It needed a resilient floor covering with high abrasion resistance to wear. Tarkett’s iQ range was able to meet the requirements of the brief in a cost effective way.

iQ Optima flooring has been installed to the main hospital street, down to theatres and into the Fracture Clinic where works also involved replacing several screeds.

Made from high-quality raw materials, iQ Optima features a 3rd generation PUR surface reinforcement that guarantees no wax or polish. With its Unique Surface Restoration, simple dry buffing is expected to restore the flooring surface to its original appearance and properties. This claims to provide extreme longevity, helps minimise maintenance costs and delivers tangible financial benefits for healthcare providers.

Tarkett’s palette has recently been expanded to offer over 60 colour options, with complementary multi-colour weld rods for a seamless finish.
