The plan for an $18 million expansion and renovation to the north end zone of Spartan Stadium was approved on 7 September 2012. The proposed construction plan would renovate and add facilities to the stadium that are currently outdated and inadequate. It is aimed at providing an upgrade for the university’s expanding football program.

The multi-million expansion plan includes a two-level addition, which features recruitment centre on the concourse, media rooms, upgraded locker rooms, and team areas and shell space for future restroom and concession areas. The current locker rooms are more than 50 years old and are inadequate. The current press conference hosting space, which is a small trailer, is also inadequate and is unable to accommodate the number of players and members of the press.

With the completion of the planning phase, the Board of Trustees is expected to vote on the project moving forward into the construction phase. The project is expected to be paid through fundraising initiatives by the athletic department.

Spartan Stadium recently completed an expansion project, which added $10 million new scoreboards.
