To be the first UTC of Yorkshire and one of only 18 across the UK, the new educational institution will have a capacity for 600 students. The three-storey building will provide specialist vocational learning within the engineering and digital sectors.
The rooftop of the new facility will also serve as a football pitch and will have space to accommodate five fields. At the ground level, the entire facility will be enveloped by landscaped gardens.
The facility will be built at the Porter Brook Site. The project also involves renovation of the former Victorian Sydney Works building located on the site. Construction on the scheme is due for completion for September 2013.
The scheme is being funded by Sheffield City Council as well as certain portions of the £9.9 million ($15.85 million) capital funding from the Department for Education awarded to the college for development projects.
