The new airport is 1,600m long and 30m wide. The facilities at the airport consists of an apron and passenger terminal, and an airport control tower. It also accommodates an arrival area and departure waiting area, food and beverage stall, and restroom facilities.

The construction of the airport also involved undertaking of other civic works, which included provision of power supply backup, and development of adequate water supply by means of disposal of sewage and drainage system. The airport also has administrative offices.

The airport is connected to some portion of the Kooddoo jetty area, which allows the passengers to use both arrival as well as departure. The development of the Gaafu Alifu Kooddoo Airport is aimed at increasing the tourist flow to the southern part of the country.
