Designed by WRNS Studio, the new Student Recreation and Wellness Center will encompass an area of 112,270 square feet. The new facility will accommodate an indoor activity space for students and the campus community. The scheme will be developed at the northwest side of the campus, which currently houses Sutro Library.
The new Student Recreation and Wellness Center will accommodate gymnasiums, multipurpose studios, an elevated jogging track, indoor leisure pool with lap lanes, racquetball courts, rock climbing wall, a state-of-the-art weight and fitness area, multipurpose studios, equipment, wellness program space, classrooms and administrative offices.
The project also involves development of a safe and accessible pedestrian connection to the main campus, the development of a softball field, hammer throw area, landscaping with connecting pathways and other site improvements.
The new facility aims at consolidating student programs and services such as fitness classes, conferences, concerts and events at one location. Upon completion, the project will deliver an expanded leisure avenue for the students, which includes workout space, swimming, fitness centre, and dedicated sports spaces.
